NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ten Lipscomb men’s soccer seniors will say their goodbyes to the home fans on Saturday night in the season finale against Jacksonville at 7 p.m.
While senior night already carries importance, the night’s result will prove monumental to both Jacksonville and Lipscomb. For the Bisons, a win or draw locks Lipscomb into the 4th seed and a Friday ASUN Quarterfinal date in Stetson. A loss for Lipscomb put them in danger of the 6th seed and a trip to Fort Myers for the ASUN Tournament.
Jacksonville on the other hand is fighting for their tournament lives. A loss could spell disaster for the Dolphins and leave them on the outside looking in for the ASUN Championships. The visitors could still make the postseason, but would need North Florida to beat USC Upstate.
The Bisons and Dolphins have met 19 times with Jacksonville leading the series 10-9. The teams met last season and the Dolphins defended home turf with a 2-1 win. In the loss for Lipscomb, Ivan Alvarado scored. In his career against the Dolphins, Alvarado has scored 2 goals and has an assist.
It’s been an inconsistent season for Jacksonville. While the Dolphins have been the only team to get a result against top-seeded Stetson, their only other ASUN points have come from a win over last place USC Upstate.
Overall the Dolphins have just three wins on the season, all of them coming in an 8-day span at the beginning of the month against Georgia St., FAU and Upstate.
The Dolphins are led on offense by Igor Ferreira who has three goals and is the only player with more than a single goal. As a team the Dolphins have scored just 11 goals on the season while giving up 22.
In net, Patrick Harding has been the main keeper for the Dolphins. The junior has started 11 matches and has been in net for all three victories. He has a .703 save pct. while allowing 19 goals.
Ten Bisons will be playing in their final home match of their careers on Saturday. The ten seniors being honored are Ivan Alvarado, Anthony Bellini, Cam Botes, Brandon Braumuller, Joe Kerridge, Scout Monteith, Eduardo Reza, Jonathan Ramirez, Ivan Sakou and Kyle Smith.
- Head coach Charles Morrow gets his second chance at his 100th Lipscomb win on Saturday.
- Logan Paynter is one point shy of moving into the top three all time in points in program history.
- Chris Zappia has played every minute of every match. He would be the first keeper in the Morrow era to play every single minute of the season.
The ASUN Tournament awaits Lipscomb the Nov. 3 & 5. Location and opponent is still TBD.
