KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On the heels of advancing to its first ASUN Conference championship match in program history, the Lipscomb men’s soccer team moved up one spot to 8th in the United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region Poll released Tuesday.
The Bisons took down NJIT 3-0 in the first round of the conference tournament Friday night in Fort Myers, Florida on PKs following the heroics of backup keeper and redshirt freshman, Luke Wilson, who was seeing his first collegiate action.
The Purple and Gold then clipped No. 2-seed and host Florida Gulf Coast, 2-1, in the semis two days later when Logan Paynter buried the game-winner on a 71st-minute header.
Lipscomb finds itself ranked in the poll for the third straight week and the seventh time this season.
FGCU is the only other ASUN program in the poll, dropping two spots to 10th. The Eagles are joined by Kentucky (4th) and Georgia State (8th) as Lipscomb opponents in the poll.
The 6th-seeded Bisons will take the pitch at 6 p.m. Saturday in the ASUN Championship match on the home turf of the 5th-seeded Jacksonville Dolphins.
