NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men’s soccer senior Ivan Sakou had a memorable week for the Bisons, tallying three goals in as many games to help his team to their first-ever ASUN Championship where he was named MVP.
For his efforts, Sakou was landed a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. He is the first Bison to earn the recognition since keeper Micah Bledsoe in 2015.
Sakou led Lipscomb in its opening-round win over NJIT last weekend with two goals in regulation before drilling a penalty kick to help secure the 3-0 decision over the Highlanders in PKs.
The forward responded two days later in the semifinals when he put the Bisons on top of No. 2 FGCU just 18 seconds into the match with a rocket through the keeper’s legs.
Sakou is second on the team with eight goals, two more than he had last season, and 18 points.
The Cameroon native earned ASUN Second Team honors for the second straight season after transferring in from VCU.
The Team of the Week is comprised of 11 players across the country that outshined all others at their respected positions.
Lipscomb opens up its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance on Thursday with a trip to Butler. The Bisons and Bulldogs kickoff at 6 p.m.
