Paynter, Alvarado Named All-Region for Bisons Soccer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the heels of the most successful season in program history, the Lipscomb men’s soccer team continues its postseason-award tour as two Bisons were voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Team. Junior Logan Paynter was a first-team selection, while senior Ivan Alvarado was named to the second team.

Paynter becomes just the second Lipscomb player to ever earn multiple All-Region honors after landing a spot on the second team in 2016.

The striker out of Bradenton, Florida put together another impressive campaign for the third straight season, leading the team and finishing second in the league with nine goals and 23 total points. He also chipped in five assists, which was third most.

For his efforts, Paynter picked up his third consecutive First Team All-Conference selection.

Paynter tallied a point in 10 matches and buried four game-winners. He will enter his senior season as the ASUN’s active career co-leader in goals (26) points (60).

Paynter earned second team all-region honors in 2016.

The first multiple All-Region honoree for Lipscomb? Alvarado. He earns a spot on the coveted list for the third consecutive season and cements himself as one of the most decorated players in school history.

Earlier this season, Alvarado became just the ninth player in ASUN history and the first Bison to ever bring home First Team All-Conference nods in four straight seasons.

The lefty collected four goals and five assists and ranked third on the team with 13 total points in his final season wearing Purple and Gold.

Alvarado leaves Nashville as Lipscomb’s all-time leader with 21 career assists, including five this season. He registered at least four assists in each season.

The Fort Worth, Texas native also chipped in 12 career goals.

Alvarado was second team all-region in 2016 and third team in 2015.

This season the Bisons posted an 11-8-2 mark and won their first-ever ASUN Tournament title after downing Jacksonville 2-1 as the No. 6 seed. The win advanced them into their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, where a strong showing resulted in a 2-0 defeat at No. 19 Butler.

With the two selections the Bisons have now had 10 players named USC all-region in their history – eight of the 10 have come in the last five seasons.
