Men's Soccer travels to Jacksonville for ASUN opener

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team prepares to kick off the most important part of its season when the Bisons travel to Jacksonville this weekend to open up ASUN Conference play.

The Bisons and Dolphins are set to kick things off at 6 p.m. Saturday at Southern Oak Stadium in what will be a rematch of the ASUN Championship from 2017.

The match will have live stats HERE and it will also be streamed live on ESPN+.



  • The Bisons took No. 7 Kentucky to overtime, where the Wildcats eventually escaped with a 3-2 victory.
  • Ryan Birchfield and Logan Paynter each scored their second goals of the season.
  • Birchfield also notched his first assist of the year.
  • Luke Wilson took the loss after getting his first career start in net. The netminder came away with six saves.


  • The Bisons and Dolphins have met 21 times with the series even at 10-10-1.
  • The teams met on Lipscomb’s Senior Night in Nashville last season, with JU winning 3-1.
  • Lipscomb then knocked off the Dolphins 2-1 in the ASUN Championship in Jacksonville to earn its first conference championship and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament.


  • The Dolphins enter Saturday still in search of their first victory after going 0-7 to begin the year.
  • Six players have tallied goals for JU this season, while Reed Davis and Ignazio Muccilli lead the team in points with three.
  • Inti Antunez leads the team with a pair of assists.
  • Three keepers have spent time in net for JU. Patrick Harding is 0-4 with a 3.16 GAA and 25 saves.



  • Lipscomb has won its last four league openers, including a 4-0 victory at USC Upstate in 2017.
  • Paynter sits with 28 career goals and 10 assists to amass 66 points in his 4-year career.
  • Javier Leija is third on the team with four points, behind one goal and two assists. Daniel Zapata and Ihaia Delaney are just behind with three.
  • Senior keeper Chris Zappia earned the ASUN’s first Defensive Player of the Week honor in 2018 after his 5th-career shutout against Belmont in the season opener where he also collected a pair of saves.
  • Lipscomb landed Paynter and Austin Eager on the ASUN Preseason All-Conference team.
  • The Purple and Gold were picked to win the league in the preseason coaches poll. They received 42 points, including four 1st-place votes. FGCU was second with 41 and one.



The Bisons return home for a pair of matches next week. They host UAB Tuesday at 7 p.m. before welcoming FGCU at 7 p.m. next Saturday.
