Kevin Burk, a former professional player, enters his seventh season as assistant coach for the men's NCAA Division I program at Lipscomb University.
Burk, a native of Serverna Park, Md., played professionally five years in both indoor and outdoor leagues in the Division I USL and MISL.
Burk is a 2001 graduate of Belmont Abbey College, a prominent Division II soccer program located in Belmont, N.C. While at the Abbey, Burk captained the team for three seasons and in the process earned Team MVP in 2000, All-Tournament Team in 2001 and 1st- Team All Conference honors from 1999-2001. In 2001 Burk was the first Abbey player to earn 1st-Team All South Region honors.
As a professional Burk has played in more than 100 games as a midfielder and forward earning numerous Player-of-the-Week honors. Burk played outdoors in the USL for the Carolina Dynamo, Greenville Lions, and Milwaukee Wave United. Indoors, Burk competed in the MISL. After an expansion draft, Burk was acquired from the Harrisburg Heat and chosen in the first round by Milwaukee Wave and two seasons later was a part of winning the league.
Burk has been a frequent guest speaker at banquets, schools, organizations and soccer clubs on the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Since 2006, Burk has been to more than 25 Elementary and Middle schools in Sumner, Rutherford and Davidson county encouraging students to set goals, pursue their dreams and stay in school.
Burk arrived on the Lipscomb campus in 2005 and was instrumental in helping Lipscomb earn a Top 10 Division I Most Improved Team in 2006. In 2007 Burk was part of helping the men's program qualify for the Conference Tournament (first time ever) and advance to the second round. Burk has been coaching club soccer for over 10 years with various boys and girls teams. Burk is training NPSA, a local club team in Nashville.
Kevin is the co-founder and Coaching Director of St. Bartholomew's Soccer Academy, a local recreational soccer league in Nashville.
He holds a USSF National "A" License, NSCAA Regional GK Diploma and is a U.S .Club Soccer ID2 scout.
Burk earned his MBA at Lipscomb, graduating in 2007.
He is married to the former Laura Aylsworth. Their first child, a daughter, Isabella, was born in August 2008. They live in Nashville.
