Oliver Strecker, a second semester transfer from Auburn, made it easily through qualifying then lost in the main draw, but he continued on to win his consolation match.
Strecker defeated Emilio Piriz from Eastern Kentucky (EKU) 6-3, 6-1 before going on to take down UK’s Matt Davis handily 6-1, 6-0. Strecker was defeated in the first round of the main draw by EKU’s Hugo Klientovsky 6-1, 6-4. However, Strecker was able to post a win in his consolation match over UK’s Gold 6-3, 6-4.
Freshman David Salazar picked up a win in qualifying over Wright State University’s (WSU) Brain Dredge in a close three set match, pulling out easily in the third set 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Salazar was defeated in his second qualifying match by East Tennessee State’s (ETSU) Juan Ramirez 6-4, 6-2.
Salazar went on to lose his consolation match to Butler’s (BU) Theodor in a tight two setter, 7-5, 6-4. Salazar was able to post a win in his second consolation match over Mei from Xavier (XU) in a second set tie breaker, 6-4, 7-6(4).
Senior Mario Hernandez was defeated in two of his matches, but was able to pick up a win in one of his singles matches. XU’s Richard Canelas defeated Hernandez 6-3, 6-4 before Hernandez fell to Purdue’s Volz 7-5, 7-6(4). Hernandez picked up a win over WSU’s Hyman 6-4, 6-4.
The Bisons lost their only doubles match played during the weekend. Strecker and Salazar were defeated in the qualifying round to UK’s Gold and Davis 8-6.
