NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Former Lipscomb men’s tennis player, Mario Hernandez, was named the new graduate assistant coach announced today by head coach Andrew Harris.
In additional to his duties as a coach, Hernandez will also be leading LU’s evening programs at the Lipscomb Racquet Club.
“We are certainly excited to have Mario Hernandez as part of the coaching staff here at Lipscomb,” Harris said. “I am confident in his ability to be a great ambassador for our community through his work at the racquet club while also being a leader for our men's team.”
Hernandez played at LU from 2007-2011 and was selected as a captain in his junior and senior season. He was instrumental in leading the Bisons to its first ever top-6 seed at the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in school history.
“The good thing is that Mario was a critical piece when he was a player here in getting the program to where it is right now and he understands the challenges that takes,” Harris said.
Prior to joining the LU coaching staff, Hernandez was a teaching professional at North Shore Winter Club in Vancouver, British Columbia over the past winter and spring.
Hernandez will be enrolled in the Institute for Civil Leadership.
