Coach Andrew Harris returns an experienced Lipscomb Bisons tennis team this season. He is anxious for the spring season to get underway.
Friday night at 6 the Bisons will open the season at Georgia Tech in Atlanta at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex, a new facility on the campus. The match will be part of a doubleheader. Tech will face Old Dominion at 12:30.
Georgia Tech’s roster features three sophomores and three freshmen. Tech will be seeking its third NCAA bid in four seasons. Seniors Juan Spir and Juan Melian are the veteran leaders of the team.
“Certainly, after not competing during November and December everyone is itching to get on the court and get some matches underway,” Harris said.
The Bisons finished fourth in the Atlantic Sun in the regular season last year, the highest finish in NCAA history for the program. The Bisons were 8-10 overall, 3-4 in the A-Sun in 2012.
“We have everyone returning and one addition in John Tougher from Ireland,” Harris said. “We want to make sure that we keep moving forward and not backwards.
“We really focused with them on the mental side this fall and understanding what it is going to take to continue to be successful.”
Harris is counting on a the senior trio of Tanner Brown, Oliver Strecker and Colby Shaw to lead the way this spring.
"I know for certain we will rely heavily on the seniors for this to be the best spring ever for the program,” Harris said. “We will see how it comes together.”
