Bisons swept by nationally-ranked ETSU
The Lipscomb Bisons competed in an A-Sun match Friday against ETSU for their Senior Day match. The men were swept 7-0 by the Buccaneers, the No. 60-ranked team in the country.

“It's important to note that Josh Cummings and Daniel Hangstefer have brought this program to another level the past four years,” men’s tennis coach Andrew Harris said. “We have many expectations for our players both on and off the court. Both of these men have continued to create a foundation for this program. They will be missed."

The Bisons played solid and consistent doubles, but in the end, they came up just short of the doubles point.

Joe McArdle and Hangstefer made a strong showing at No. 1. The duo fought hard but fell to Teraz and Bottoni 9-7.

The Bisons secured their lone win of the day at No. 2 doubles. Chad Pierron and Tanner Brown earned a victory, defeating Gille and Bandres 8-6.

No. 3 doubles found a close match coming down to a tiebreaker. Mario Hernandez and Colby Shaw fell to Weintraub and Isaza 9-8 (3).

With solid doubles play, the Bisons had confidence even though they entered singles with a 1-0 disadvantage.

Pierron fell at the No. 1 spot, losing to Gille 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 2, Hangstefer competed in a tight match against Terez. The match came down to a third set tiebreaker. Unfortunately, Hangstefer fell just short of victory, losing 7-6, 3-6, 10-7.

The Bisons were now at a 3-0 disadvantage to ETSU.

Hernandez was defeated at No. 3 by Bottoni 6-3, 6-1, while Shaw lost 6-0, 6-0 to Bandres at No 4.

McArdle fell at No. 5 6-4, 6-2 to Asker, and Brown lost at No. 6 to Bonnevalle 6-3, 6-2.

"ETSU did a great job of coming back after the doubles and showed why they are where they are right now,” Harris said. “To have 3 of their top 4 players being freshmen and producing the way they are is pretty impressive.

“We will go back to the drawing board and get things ready to go for next weekend."

The Bisons will compete next on Friday, April 2 when they travel to Georgia to face Kennesaw State in their next A-Sun match.
