Bisons shut down by 39th-ranked Vandy
The Bisons were shut out in their second match of the season in a 7-0 loss to Vanderbilt.

"The guys fought hard out there, but Vanderbilt was too good today,” men’s assistant coach Mike Sherman said. “Overall, these last two matches have been a great start to the season. We look forward to our next match versus Georgia State and can't wait to see what this season has in store."

The Bisons fell behind early in the match by a 1-0 deficit after losing the doubles point 3-0.

Senior Joe McArdle and freshman Oliver Strecker were defeated by Ryan Lipman and Adam Baker 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, sophomores Tanner Brown and Colby Shaw fell 8-1 to Charlie Jones and Alex Zotov.

Senior Mario Hernandez and freshman David Salazar lost 8-4 at No. 3 to Bryant Salcedo and Alex DiValerio.

With a 1-0 lead, Vanderbilt went on to sweep the Bisons in singles play.

At No. 1 singles, Strecker was defeated by Lipman 6-3, 6-2 while Brown fell to Baker 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.

Salazar lost at No. 3 6-2, 6-2 to Salcedo to put the Bisons at a 4-0 deficit. Shaw was defeated by Blake Bazarnik 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4.

Sophomore Daniel Lee fell at No. 5 to DiValerio 6-3, 6-1. Hernandez fought hard but came up short in a three set loss to Zotov at the No. 6 spot, falling 7-6(5), 3-6, 10-5.

The Bisons will be back in action Friday, January 28th, when they face Georgia State. The match will begin at 6 p.m. at Richland Country Club.
