Tennis teams to wrap up 2012 regular season this weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s and women’s tennis teams play host to Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson this weekend in their final two matches of the season.

Both teams are coming off losses to North Florida. However, head coach Andrew Harris says this weekend will be about honoring the teams’ seniors.

“This is a great weekend for our three seniors, Danielle Hansen, Elizabeth Keevil and Sam Bowman,” Harris says. “All three have been part of a tremendous experience the past two seasons and have bought into moving us from a team to a program. With these two matches, they will end up being one of the most successful two seasons in program history.

“With that said, both FGCU and Stetson bring great experience, and it will be a tremendous challenge. I am looking forward to seeing us come through with shining colors."

The Lady Bisons hold a 1-6 record heading into this weekend, while both Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson have a 4-3 record.

The men will only honor one senior as they face the challenges posed by Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.

"On the men's side, Chad Pierron is our lone senior,” Harris says. “Given the results this weekend, the men will be part of the first ever back- to-back conference tournament appearance in program history. FGCU is a lot better this year than last year so we will need to bring our “A”game if we are going to finish the day like we would like too. Coach Pilote always brings a great team to forefront and we will look forward to a great challenge with them. At the end of the weekend, we need to have a spirit of desperation in everything we do and leave it on the court."

The men will be evenly matched with Florida Gulf Coast as both teams boast a 3-4 record but the Stetson men will pose a threat with only two losses this season.

The Bisons and Lady Bisons host FGCU on Friday at 2 p.m. before facing Stetson on Saturday. The Lady Bisons begin at 9 a.m., while the men will play at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at Lipscomb’s Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
