NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb men's tennis celebrated senior day on Saturday, but unfortunately, lost the match 5-2 to Atlantic Sun Conference opponent No. 63 North Florida.
The doubles team of Colby Shaw and Tanner Brown won its match, while Daniel Hernandez and Stuart Tierney claimed victories in the singles.
Shaw, Brown and Oliver Streckerwere all honored as senior members of the team.
Lipscomb coach Andrew Harris said that missed chances in doubles hurt the team.
“We definitely missed some opportunities in the doubles,” Harris said. “I wish we could have done better, but we bounced back pretty well.”
Harris said that the play of Hernandez and Tierney helped a great deal in the singles. Hernandez won his match 3-6, 6-1, 15-13, while Tierney posted a 6-0, 6-4 win.
“Daniel Hernandez and Stuart Tierney did a great job in singles, and I think we’re going to really rely heavily on them Monday against Belmont,” Harris said.
Harris noted the strong effort from the Ospreys, saying that their preparedness was evident.
“I think UNF was definitely ready to go as always, and they didn’t show many weaknesses,” Harris said.
After Saturday’s loss, the Bisons will close out the regular season by taking on rival Belmont at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on Monday. Harris said he hopes the team will continue to improve as they face the Bruins.
“So, we’ve got to continue to get better match-in and match-out, and once we do that, I think we’ll be in a good place moving forward,” Harris said. “So, we’re looking forward to getting back at it Monday against Belmont.”
