Men’s tennis ends tournament run with loss to ETSU

Sunday, April 21, 2013

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - After Friday’s monumental win over the three-seeded Stetson, the sixth-seeded Lipscomb men’s tennis team couldn’t create the same results against two-seeded Atlantic Sun tournament host ETSU, losing 4-1 in the semifinals.

Stuart Tierney posted the team’s only win of the day in the singles.

Lipscomb coach Andrew Harris gave high praise to the team’s departing seniors, saying that the tennis program is what it is today because of their hard work and effort.

“These three seniors were a tremendous group to coach,” Harris said. “It truly was a pleasure being able to daily see these guys mature into the men they are now. When you talk about players that set a new standard, these guys did that.

“Certainly, it was tough tonight to not come out on top, but I know we are better now than we were four years ago when they first got here,” Harris said.

The Bisons closed the season with a 10-11 record, going 3-5 in conference play.

Matches will once again commence in the fall.
