NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb tennis coach Andrew Harris has gone to the country that brought us Wimbledon for one of his new additions to the tennis team for 2013-14.

Rob Mitchell, from Southampton, England, will bring solid tennis credentials with him across the Atlantic.

He was the British Colleges Men’s Singles Champion in both 2013 and 2012.

In October 2011 he was ranked No. 1 in the United Kingdom for the U16 age group.

Mitchell also was ranked No. 1 in the county of Hampshire for both the U16 and U14 age groups. He has represented Hampshire in team events at the U16, U18 and men’s levels.

Late in the 2012 season he beat two world-ranked players, including one in the top 1,000 internationally, at the men’s tournament level.

In April of this year he won the Winchester Men’s Open Tournament, a local tournament in the Southampton area.

“We are really excited to have the Mitchell family as a part of the Lipscomb community this fall,” Harris said. “Rob comes from an excellent family and brings with him a determination to succeed in the classroom.

“From a tennis standpoint he is one of the stronger players in England. We are looking forward to him making an immediate in the line-up his freshman year.”
