CLEMSON, S.C. – Lipscomb’s men’s and women’s tennis teams are on the road this weekend for the Clemson Duckworth Fall Tennis Classic in South Carolina.
“There are good teams here,” Lady Bisons coach Jamie Aid said. “We are continuing with the theme of getting back on the bus on Sunday as a better team.”
The women’s field included Clemson, Tulane, VCU, UNC-Asheville, ETSU, Wofford, Winthrop, Troy, Armstrong Atlantic, Barry, Georgia Regional University, Charleston Southern, USC-Upstate, Kennesaw State.
Freshmen Lorena Djuknic and Sierra Troxel will pair up for doubles.
“We are in Clemson to compete and grow as a team and as individuals,” Aid said.
After a strong showing at the Steve Baras Fall Classic at Tennessee-Chattanooga last weekend the Bisons are looking forward to the competition at Clemson.
“I expect the team to work hard and compete,” Bisons coach Mario Hernandez said. “We have spoken about not being satisfied with the success we have had so far. Every day, we have to come out and earn our victories. That’s the only way to do it.”
The Clemson men’s team is not competing. Joining Lipscomb in the men’s field are Troy and Georgia Regional University,
Hernandez is as interested in the demeanor of his players on the court as he is their match results.
“We have been focusing more about how we act on the court,” Hernandez. “We have been playing well, but we still need a ton of work on carrying ourselves well no matter what is happening on the court.”
The tournament starts Friday with doubles competition.
