Men's tennis came out aggressive by taking the doubles point, but it could not quite keep up as Stetson took the 5-2 decision in Atlantic Sun Conference action Saturday in DeLand. Alejandro Manzanares helped Lipscomb get both of its points with a win in both singles and doubles play.

The Lipscomb men’s tennis team fell to 0-2 in conference play on Thursday with a 6-1 loss to Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers. Florida Gulf Coast came out and took the doubles point to start things off and did not look back from there.

The Lipscomb men’s tennis team gets to travel to Florida over the weekend for conference matches against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. Play against Florida Gulf Coast (11-5, 2-0) will begin on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Lipscomb men’s tennis looked to avenge a loss to Kentucky from earlier in the season on Saturday, but fell 4-1. Play started with singles and on a high note for the Bisons as Rob Mitchell picked up an early win at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.

The Lipscomb Bisons tennis team had a successful final tune-up before the start of the Atlantic Sun portion of the season. Wednesday night at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on the Lipscomb campus the Bisons beat North Alabama 6-1.

Kim Puckett Scott is a medical doctor, an OB-GYN to be exact. In addition to her practice, the 1999 Lipscomb Athletic Hall of Famer and a former NAIA All-American, is married and raising three children. It may be spring break, but the men’s tennis team is finding no time to rest. The Bisons are back in action Wednesday against North Alabama at 3 p.m. and then face the first Atlantic Sun challenge of the season when North Florida visits at 2 p.m. A last minute addition is a visit Saturday at 6 p.m. from Kentucky.

Stewart is a 1998 inductee into the Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame. She became the first-ever All-Conference and All-District player in Lady Bison history and was selected as VSAC Most Valuable Player in 1984. She also became the first Lady Bisons player to score more than 1,000 points.

John Friend (left) is technically retired but he still serves as a consultant and chief fundraiser for the athletics department at Purdue-Calumet. He played basketball at Lipscomb, but is known throughout the country as a top football coach and is a frequent speaker at clinics.

The Lipscomb men’s tennis team traveled to Murfreesboro on Wednesday for a midweek battle with Middle Tennessee and started the match hot, but would eventually fall 6-1. Lipscomb picked up the point in doubles play as two teams won their respective duals.

The Lipscomb Bisons tennis team will make a trip to Carbondale, Illinois on Saturday to face SIU-Carbondale at 2 p.m. SIU-Carbondale will enter the match at 3-5 and coming off of consecutive wins. The Bisons are familiar with Carbondale as they faced last year with Lipscomb falling 7-0.

The Lipscomb men’s tennis team won its fourth match in a row Saturday defeating Tennessee Tech 4-3 at Richland Country Club. Sophomore John Tougher secured the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the night's final match.

The Lipscomb men’s tennis team will take its first road trip of the season as it travels to Ohio for matches against Wright State, Xavier and Dayton over the weekend. They will take on Wright State in Dayton on Friday, Xavier in Cincinnati on Saturday and back to Dayton to face the Flyers Sunday.

The Lipscomb men’s tennis team opened its spring season Friday against the 19th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores inside the Currey Tennis Center. The Bisons fell 0-4. Freshman Rob Mitchell took set one 6-4 in his singles match, but the match was not finished.

Joey Haines, a former T&F coach and athlete at Lipscomb, has been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Coaches Hall of Fame. Haines started his coaching career at Lipscomb. He retired after 26 years as the T&F coach for both men’s and women’s teams at SEMO.
