Men's tennis to compete in ITA Regionals at Vandy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb men's tennis team will be participating in the ITA Regional this weekend here in Nashville.

Starting Wednesday, all matches will take place at Vanderbilt University. Teams from all over the region will be participating, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana and Vanderbilt, among others.

“The boys are excited to get started with our Regional Championships, especially with it being in our hometown,” said head coach Mario Hernandez.

Thais Minet and John Tougher will be playing in qualifying matches on Wednesday. Minet will play Vanderbilt’s Pen Binet at 2 p.m. Tougher will be the last qualifier to play as he takes on Srdjan Troscic of Murray State.

Rob Mitchell and Daniel Hernandez have already secured their spots in the singles draw. Mitchell will face off with Alex Toliver of IUPUI. Hernandez will play Butler’s Austin Woldmore.

Mitchell and Hernandez will also team up in the doubles draw with a first round match against Andrew Watson and Patrick Mayer of Memphis, while Minet will team up with Carson Panovec with an opening round match against Sebastian Yllera and Connor Huertas Del Pino of ETSU.

Doubles action started at 8 a.m. Wednesday and the first round of the singles draw after that.  Action will continue through Sunday.

“I think the coaching staff and the players have adjusted and improved after each tournament,” Hernandez said. “We will look to do the same so that we know what we have to focus on before the spring season in January. It's going to be a great event."
