NASHVILLE, Tenn. – It may be spring break for Lipscomb University, but the men’s tennis team is finding no time to rest.
The Bisons are back in action Wednesday against North Alabama at 3 p.m. and then face the first Atlantic Sun challenge of the season when North Florida visits at 2 p.m.
A last minute addition is a visit Saturday at 6 p.m. from Kentucky from the Southeastern Conference, a rematch from earlier this season which the Bisons lost 4-0 in Birmingham, Alabama Feb. 22.
The Bisons are coming off a 5-1 loss at UAB Sunday. Only Rob Mitchell, playing at No. 1 singles, won.
"It wasn't our best match but that happens,” Lipscomb coach Mario Hernandez said. “We need to put it behind us."
They have three opportunities to bounce back this week with all three matches slated for the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on campus.
"We have had a few good days of training outside,” Hernandez said. “Then we have some good matches at home against North Alabama, UNF and Kentucky.
“We just have to keep working and move on to the next day. We are now into our conference season and we're ready because it's going to be a lot of fun.”
Hernandez has a team that features six freshmen and one sophomore and one junior. He thinks they are ready for the challenge of A-Sun play.
“I'm excited for our guys, whom are mostly freshmen, to get the chance to experience the intensity that comes with conference matches,” Hernandez said. “This is what we peak and play for."
