NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb men’s tennis team hits the court again this weekend in search of their first win.
The Bisons welcome Austin Peay and Belmont to the Richland Country Club on Friday and Saturday.
Play against the Governors of Austin Peay starts at 7 p.m. on Friday. After having their first two matches of the season cancelled, the Governors enter the match at 0-1 following a 4-3 loss to Chattanooga two weeks ago.
Lipscomb faced Austin Peay last season, pulling out a 4-3 win in Clarksville.
On Saturday, the Battle of the Boulevard hits the tennis court at 6 p.m. The Bruins enter the weekend at 4-1 and coming off of a 4-0 win over Chattanooga last weekend.
The Bisons won last year’s matchup with the Bruins with a 5-2 decision.
Bison head coach Mario Hernandez is looking forward to bringing in these local opponents.
“They are familiar opponents that we’ve played many times against and always play close matches,” Hernandez said. “Like us, they get up for these local matches.”
Through their first three matches, the Bisons struggled in their doubles play. Doubles matches often set the tone for the singles matches and Hernandez wants to see their doubles form back to where it was a year ago. He felt his team started in the right direction against Alabama on Sunday.
“Alabama gave us some confidence, especially in doubles play,” Hernandez said. “Simple things like energy and aggression are the main characteristics we’re looking for (in doubles).”
Hernandez wants his team to carry their energy and aggressiveness from doubles and into singles and continue to build confidence in their games.
“We want to make sure one thing we’re correcting is dictating how the match goes and to continue to improve in their game and build confidence in their game,” Hernandez said. “The guys are hungry to get their first win. The motivation level is there.”
