Men's Tennis looks to sharpen its game with ASUN play around the corner

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - With just two matches remaining before ASUN Conference play starts up, the Lipscomb men’s tennis team looks to sharpen some things up this week.

The Bisons picked up a 4-2 win over Ball State on Friday and will look to build on that win with matches at UNC-Asheville and Gardner-Webb to start their spring break.

UNC-Asheville enters the week at an even, 6-6, on the season after earning a 4-3 win over West Liberty in its last time out. Monday’s match against the Bulldogs is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Asheville, North Carolina.

Lipscomb (3-7) will be the Runnin’ Bulldogs of Garnder-Webb’s first match in over a week when the two teams matchup onWednesday. Gardner-Webb (4-9) has dropped its last four matches.

Both teams will be fresh matchups for the Bisons, but head coach Mario Hernandez is aware of the challenges they present.

“This will be our first time playing either team in a while, but we know both will be good challenges and will prepare us well for conference,” Hernandez said.

With conference play peeking around the corner, the Bisons plan to go into these matches the same they would any other matches.

“Just continue to work hard in the few days of preparation we have. We'll make it work though,” Hernandez said. “Play our game and play to win.”

Along the lines of approaching these matches like normal is Lipscomb hoping to continue to sharpen their individual games in the final tune-up matches before conference play begins.

“We want to continue to sharpen our game and understand our team's identity better each match,” Hernandez said. “We just have to be the best we can be and the results will take care of themselves.”
