Commodore Scramble presents tough challenge for men's tennis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men’s tennis continues fall action this weekend with a short trip to West End where they will be competing in the Commodore Scramble hosted by Vanderbilt.

The 3-day event will run Friday through Sunday and first serve each morning will be at 9 a.m.

Joining the Bisons and Dores in the seven-team field are Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Louisville and Furman. That lineup features four teams from the SEC, one from the ACC and another out of the SoCon.

Not only does first-year head coach Geoff Hernandez welcome the strong competition for his Bisons, he is going into the weekend with an expectation of winning.

“What’s exciting about this weekend is the level of competition we are playing against. They are all high-level opponents,” Hernandez said. “When we get a chance to play competition like this, it’s all about competing and going after it aggressively because we want our guys to have a mindset of winning matches. This should be a good test to see how we match up.”

Hernandez is only sending four players to the court, including Alejandro Manzanares who will be making his fall debut. The senior was an All-ASUN second teamer last season after going 10-5 in singles play. He will look to keep his winning streak alive after finishing a perfect 3-0 at No. 2 singles in the ASUN Championship as a junior.

Alongside Manzanares will be his sophomore doubles partner Jorge Ortegon. Teaming up on the other doubles side are a pair of freshmen – David Skrabut and Pedro Uribe.

Draws have not been announced at this time, but there will be four rounds of both Singles and Doubles play over the three days.
