NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The doubles team of Victor Chaw and Alejandro Manzanares has been tough to beat lately. In fact, the Lipscomb men’s tennis duo has reeled off six straight victories, including five in ASUN play.
For their efforts, the pairing has moved into the ITA National Doubles rankings this week. The Bisons came in at No. 90 in the rankings, which were released Tuesday by the college tennis governing body.
The accolade marks the first time this season that Lipscomb has placed a team in the doubles rankings. Chaw and Jorge Ortegon earned the 78th spot in the March 7, 2017 doubles rankings.
Last season, Rob Mitchell become the first Bison to be ranked in singles, when he earned the 118th overall spot in April 2017.
Chaw and Manzanares are currently 12-3 overall in doubles play, with an unbeaten 5-0 record in conference play. Their only losses have been to IUPUI, Tennessee Tech and Georgia Southern.
In addition to the six-match winning streak, the pairing is also 9-1 in their last 10 decisions.
Individually, Chaw is 14-4 in the No. 2 spot, while Manzanares is 8-10 at No. 1. Chaw has earned a pair of ASUN Player of the Week awards for his stellar sophomore season.
The duo will be back in action on Friday for the first round of the ASUN tournament. The Bisons take on Kennesaw State at 8 a.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.
