Tough sledding for men's tennis in Short/LaLance Shootout

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Lipscomb men’s tennis sent four members to Murfreesboro this weekend to participate in the Short/LaLance Shootout on the campus of Middle Tennessee at the Adams Tennis Complex.

Jake Penny, David Skrabut, Francesco Tacconi and George Wong competed with players from Belmont, Memphis and MT over three days of action. The Bisons had a tough showing throughout the event, finishing just 2-10 in singles and 2-4 in doubles.

Lipscomb opened the shootout on Friday against the host Blue Raiders. MT took five of the six matches, but Penny and Tacconi were able to pull out a doubles victory (6-3) against Max Rauch and Paul Moti.

The Purple and Gold put together its best showing on Saturday when they took on rival Belmont, with each side winning three matches each. Penny earned a (6-1, 6-2) win against Jake Briggs, while Tacconi downed David Faulkner (6-0, 6-3).

Wong and Skrabut blanked Grant Kelly and Dawson Blankenship (6-0) to get the only doubles victory of the day.

The Bisons wrapped things up on Sunday against Memphis as the Tigers won all six matches.



Lipscomb will be back on the court Oct. 11-14 when it travels to Knoxville for the ITA Regionals at the University of Tennessee.
