NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb men’s tennis team returns to action this weekend for a pair of matches.
The Bisons (1-2) will play host to Furman on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Richland Country Club before traveling south to Samford on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start.
Lipscomb picked up its first victory of the spring last Friday after blanking Austin Peay 7-0 in Clarksville. The Bisons won the doubles point behind 6-2 decisions from Victor Chaw/Pablo Caffarena and Jorge Ortegon/Pedro Uribe.
The Bisons then swept the singles action, winning five of the six matches in straight sets.
Chaw paces the team in singles with a 2-0 mark on the year. Caffarena and Ortegon have also earned a a pair of wins for Geoff Hernandez’s squad.
On the doubles side of the net, Ortegon and Uribe carry an unblemished 2-0 mark into Friday.
Friday will be the first-ever meeting between Lipscomb and Furman. It comes to Nashville 1-2 after dropping its last two matches against Charlotte (5-2) and Georgia Tech (7-0). The Paladins return seven players from last season's team that posted a 19-8 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Southern Conference play.
Saturday’s match will be the third-ever meeting with Samford and the first since 2015. The Bulldogs have won both of the previous meetings.
Samford enters the weekend 2-2 after earning wins over Alabama State (5-2) and North Alabama (7-0) last weekend. Jack Lyttle leads the team in singles at 2-0 on the season while the pairing of Aleksandar Petrovic and Max Rebol are 3-0 in doubles.
Lipscomb returns home to welcome Grand Canyon at 5 p.m. next Saturday, February 9.
