MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb sophomore Tucker Peabody has been named Atlantic Sun men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Peabody broke two school records in his last three meets. He began 2012 by setting the 55m dash record at the Ed Temple Invite, Jan. 7, with a 6.42s run. He ranks third in the conference in the 60m dash using that time pro-rated from the 55m scale.
He began the season by breaking the school indoor-record in the 200m dash at the MTSU Christmas Invite, winning the event with a 21.77s mark. It was Peabody’s first individual win this season after picking up four as a freshman.
At last weekend’s Saluki Booster, he finished runner-up with a 22.13s mark. Adjusted for track size that run puts him at 21.73s, which is the best mark in the Atlantic Sun and 42nd in the nation entering this weekend’s competition.
“Tucker is highly motivated and has started this season with some terrific performances,” said Lipscomb head track and field coach Bill Taylor. “It’s going to be a fun season and Tucker is going to do some amazing things this year.”
The award is the second weekly Atlantic Sun honor of Peabody’s career. He won his first award on April 13, 2011 by setting a personal-best 10.69s mark in the 100m dash.
The track and field teams will be off this weekend before returning to action Jan. 27 at the ETSU Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City.
