JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – More school records fell on Lipscomb track and field’s second day of competition at the ETSU Niswonger Invitational, Saturday.
Sophomore Tucker Peabody continued to impress, knocking another three-tenths of a second off his 200m school record, winning the final with a 21.28s mark.
Freshman Matthew Deery set the school pole vault mark at 4.75m (15’ 7”), finishing third overall and first among collegiate team participants.
“Tucker was a highlight again today,” said Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor. “He dropped massive time off the 200m record. Matthew Deery was also very impressive in the pole vault.”
Freshman Colin Dempster finished 10th overall in the 400m dash, with a 49.74s run.
Freshman Brenna Thompson finished seventh in the finals of the 400m dash with a 59.30s mark.
Freshman Kendra Lobley (5:15.75s) and sophomore Priya Pappu (5:18.80s) finished first and second in the invitational mile run.
Lobley continued her day by running the first leg of the women’s distance medley relay; she joined with sophomore Katie Bunker and juniors Sara Stephens and Amanda Twigg to finish with a 12:19.62s run.
“The women’s distance medley team had a big win in an exciting race,” Taylor said. “Then we finished that up with Kendra and Priya finishing first and second in the mile run.
“Our distance and middle distance runners ran great. We had one week of quality training, which is just enough to get really sore. Everything they accomplished today was on talent and guts. We are going to improve a ton from here."
At Arkansas’ Razorback Invite, junior Dillon Seigenthaler set the school record in the heptathlon, finishing 19th overall with 4,757 points in the event.
“The ETSU meet was great for us,” Taylor said. “Six records fell here, plus Dillon’s in Arkansas. I am excited for a few more races and events tomorrow at Tennessee State; then we’ll have a couple of weeks to train and get better.”
The Bison track and field teams will get in some more work at tomorrow’s TSU Invite, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Gentry Center.
