NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb track and field will travel down I-40 for Saturday’s Rhodes Open in Memphis, Tenn. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Fargason Field, and will run all day Saturday. No Friday night events will be held.
The LU track and field teams will face big tests this weekend. Division I squads joining Lipscomb at Rhodes will be archrival Belmont, MTSU, Mississippi, UALR, Vanderbilt and Southeast Missouri.
This will be Lipscomb’s first time at the Rhodes Open. The last time a Lipscomb team competed in Memphis was at the 2009 Memphis Tiger Invitational.
Lipscomb had a big week at last weekend’s Birmingham Southern Classic. Freshmen Houston Ward (shot put and discus) and Colin Dempster (800m run), sophomores Dani Walker (1500m run) and Tucker Peabody (400m dash) and senior Anna Bowers picked up individual wins during the two-day event.
Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor hopes to have a strong showing this weekend. With the Atlantic Sun Outdooor Championships fast approaching, he knows there’s little time for his team to slack off.
“With the conference meet in late April, you just don’t get many opportunities to improve your performance and get in the right heats,” Taylor said. “We want to be ready for the conference championships.”
The Bison and Lady Bison track and field teams will travel across town next weekend for the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invite.
