NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The first indoor track and field meet of the season for the Lipscomb Bisons, saw two school records fall and a usual suspect at the top of the leaderboard at the Ed Temple Classic hosted by Tennessee State University on Saturday.
Sophomore thrower April Terry set two school records while junior Tucker Peabody took home the victory in the 200m.
“We had a good start to the season today,” Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor said. “There were some great efforts, while at the same time we see how much work we have to do.”
Terry set the school record in the weight throw with a throw of 15.37m and in the shot put with a toss of 12.37m. She finished in third and fourth place, respectively, in the events.
“April led the way for us today absolutely crushing the school records in the shot and weight throw,” Taylor said. “I think all our throwers set indoor personal records.”
Sophomore Houston Ward finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 14.44m and third in the shot put with a toss of 14.40m.
Junior Tucker Peabody claimed victory in the 200m dash with a time of 21.75 seconds, besting second place by thirty-seven hundredths of a second.
“Tucker ran great in both the 55m and 200m,” Taylor said. “I really liked what we saw from Nelson Scott today as well. He is a great competitor.”
Scott clocked in with a time of 51.19 in the 400m dash as the top Lipscomb finisher.
Gemikal Prude finished third in the high jump with a leap of 1.98m while Adam Austin finished in a tie for seventh with a jump of 1.88m.
Lipscomb returns to action Friday as it travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the Blazer Invite at the Crossplex. The meet is hosted by UAB.
