NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Birmingham Crossplex has been almost like a home facility for the Lipscomb track and field teams.
Friday and Saturday part of both the men’s and women’s teams will travel to the Crossplex for the third time this season.
The Samford University Multi and Invitational is welcoming 47 teams and a facility record 1,800 athletes.
Another group of Lipscomb athletes will be heading north to Southern Illinois for the SIU Invitational Friday and Saturday. There will be 416 athletes representing 22 schools.
“We are splitting the team between two meets this weekend,” Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor said. “A lot of indoor meets limit entries, so this helps us get more of our athletes in races and events than if we just went to one meet.
“Each meet has advantages for the people we are sending as well. It just gives us a lot of good options."
Top athletes competing for the Bisons at Samford’s meet will be high jumper Gemikal Prude; sprinter Tucker Peabody (200 meters, 60 meters), Christian Freeman (3000 meters), Colin Dempster (800 meters), high jump and long jump athlete Phillip Smith, and pole vaulter Kevin Floyd,
The Lady Bisons competing at Samford include Sally Larson (5000 meters), Madi Talbert (5000 meters), Tessa Hoefle (5000 meters), Katie Collier (pentathlon), Dani Walker (3000 meters), and pole vaulter Annika Backlund.
