NEW ORLEANS, La. – Lipscomb high jumper Gemikal Prude has been named Second Team All-American by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2014 indoor season.
"It's a great honor for Gemikal and another great example of what can be accomplished in our program," said Bill Taylor, director of track and field. "We are really proud of him. I'm especially impressed that he went to nationals and made it just another meet."
The honors are based on the performances of the athletes who participated in the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend.
Prude earned the honors after finishing between ninth and 16th place in the championships. In the event, he finished ninth overall.
He completed the high jump with a leap spanning 2.15 meters, which is just short the school record for the indoor high jump at 2.20 meters.
Prude is Lipscomb’s first Men’s Track and Field All-American in the NCAA Division I era.
He and the rest of the track and field group will be heading to Myrtle Beach, S.C. later in the week to compete in the Shamrock Invite.
