CARBONDALE, Ill. – At the conclusion of Day One of the Saluki Booster, a school record was broken and three Bison athletes earned top finishes in the pole vault at the Southern Illinois Student Recreation Center.

Freshman April Terry added five feet to her school weight throw record, with a 46’ 9” toss (14.25m) advancing her to the finals against some of the nation’s best throwers. She ultimately finished 10th. Winner Brittany Riley’s 25.12m (82’ 5”) mark gave her the world’s best weight throw this season.

“I was very pleased with April’s effort in the weight,” said Lipscomb assistant coach Luke Syverson. “We changed some big stuff in her form in the middle of the week, so for her to come out and make that adjustment and throw that mark was a great confidence boost for her.”

Three men’s pole vaulter’s put together strong days at SIU. Freshman Matthew Deery was runner-up with a 14’ 5.25” (4.40m) mark, less than two inches off the school record in his first collegiate pole vault event.

Senior Dillon Seigenthaler was fourth in the event with a 13’ 11.25” (4.25m) mark. Freshman Kevin Floyd was seventh at 13’ 5.25” (4.10m).

“The men’s marks were a little below their personal-bests, but it was good for them to get their feet wet,” Syverson said. “For Matt and Kevin, it was their first collegiate meet. I really think that will be a strong event for us this year.”

The meet continues Saturday morning, with the women’s shot put at 10 a.m. The track events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our track athletes carry over the momentum from our meets at MTSU and TSU,” Syverson said. “We have good heats and good competition, so we expect to see some good times.”
