NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following an extra week of rest, the Lipscomb track and field teams will have a big weekend, competing in two meets over three days. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28, the teams will be in Johnson City for the Niswonger Invitational, hosted by ETSU. Sunday morning, select athletes will compete at the TSU Invite in Nashville at Tennessee State’s Gentry Center.
Lipscomb will have a full squad available for the first time this season. The distance runners have been out of competition since the end of cross country season and are eager to get their first indoor action of 2012 under their belts.
Joining Lipscomb and host ETSU in Johnson City will be Charleston Southern, Georgia Southern, Austin Peay, as well as A-Sun foes Kennesaw State and USC Upstate, among others.
Lipscomb track athletes broke three school records at last season’s Niswonger Invitational. Dani Walker broke the Lipscomb mark in the mile run, which she has lowered since then, and also notched a 2:15.62s mark in the 800m that still stands.
Sophomore Tucker Peabody broke the 200m record at ETSU last season with a 22.16s mark. He lowered it to 21.77s at this season’s MTSU Christmas Invite, which earned him his second career A-Sun Runner of the Week honor.
Middle distances, hurdles and relays will continue competition at TSU, against athletes from Alabama A&M, Albany State and Bethel in addition to the host Tigerbelles.
Lipscomb will take next weekend off before traveling to Indiana for the prestigious Hoosier Hills Classic, Feb. 10-11.
