Six School Track and Field Records Fall in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Six Lipscomb indoor track and field records fell on the first day of competition at the Hoosier Hills Invite, with four individual marks set by a talented group of freshmen.

Freshman Matthew Deery continued his assault on the Lipscomb indoor 60m hurdles record. The Phillipsburg, N.J. native lowered the mark to 8.54s on his way to an 11th-place finish.

Sophomore Tucker Peabody posted the fastest mark in the preliminaries of the 60m and 200m dash. He was the only runner to clock a time under seven seconds in the 60m, finishing in 6.98s. He placed highest in the 200m dash by seven-hundredths of a second with a 21.59s clip.

In the men’s 400m, freshman Colin Dempster lowered his school-best indoor mark to 49.01s. He was one-hundredth of a second behind the top finisher.

Sophomore Dani Walker put together a school-record run in the mile run, placing third with a 5:03.33s run. Freshman Kendra Lobley was hot on her heels, coming in fourth at 5:03.39s.

In the women’s 400m dash, freshman Brenna Thompson set a school-record with a sixth-place, 58.10s run. Among marks scored prior to competition on Friday, that would place her fourth in the conference.

In the 800m run, sophomore Katie Bunker finished fourth with a 2:18.01s mark, while freshman Megan McClain won her heat by turning in a personal-best 2:20.00s run that placed her 10th.

Freshman April Terry broke the school record in the shot put. Her first throw of the meet flew 11.74m (38’ 6.25”), placing her second in the meet. She also earned an eighth-place finish in the weight throw with a 13.38m (43’ 10.75”) toss after fouling on her first two attempts.

Three relay teams earned third-place marks on day one. The men’s 4x400m team of Peabody, Dempster and juniors Bobby Bassett and Ryan Whitley set the school indoor mark at 3:21.30s on their way to a third-place finish.

The women’s distance medley team of Maggie Lawrence, Valerie Winkler, Catherine Beals and Louisa Van Batavia was third in the relay with a 12:33.84s mark. The women’s 4x400m team of Bunker, Thompson, Walker and junior Sara Stephens was third with a 3:56.29s run.
