JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Lipscomb track and field wrapped up the UNF Spring Break Invite Saturday with top marks in a number of field events.
Freshman Houston Ward put together two solid throw events. He led off with a personal-best 44.97m (147’ 6”) toss on his fourth throw to earn a fifth-place finish. He followed that up with a seventh-place, 14.17m (46’ 6”) shot put toss.
Senior Austin Ray finished seventh in his first javelin throw of the spring with a personal-best 54.76m (179’ 8) toss.
In the women’s javelin, sophomore Taylor Mason tied for 11th with a 33.43m (109’ 8”) heave.
Junior Adam Austin earned an eighth-place 1.93m (6’ 4”) high jump finish.
On the track, freshman Matthew Deery continued what had already been an impressive first outdoor meet. His 56.21s 400m hurdles mark placed him 14th.
Freshman Megan McClain was the Lady Bison leader in the 1500m run with a personal-best 5:01.76s run, good for 13th overall in a field of 51.
The Lady Bison 4x400m team placed fifth with a 3:59.53s mark.
Jacksonville wasn’t the only spot on the map where a Lipscomb athlete was competing this weekend. Sophomore Tucker Peabody was at the High Tide Qualifier in Birmingham, Ala. trying to bump his 200m mark up to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Boise, Idaho next weekend. Though strong once more in the 200m, Peabody’s 21.51s mark in Birmingham was not fast enough to place him in the NCAA field.
The full Bison and Lady Bison contingent will be in Birmingham next weekend for the Birmingham Southern Invitational, scheduled for March 10.
