NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb track and field team travels to fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member ETSU for the Niswonger Invite. The meet takes place Friday and Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn.
The invite expects 800 student-athletes from 60 institutions competing in 16 men’s and 16 women’s events.
For the first time this season the Lipscomb distance runners will be competing. In the past, the distance runners have been some of the strongest events for Lipscomb.
“Dani Walker took it to another level at the end of the cross country season,” Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor said. “She will be competing in the 800, 3000 and the DMR. We also have a crew of distance runners and you never know who will emerge from one meet to the next.
“On the guy’s side we are a little young. Grant Stromberg will compete for the first time for Lipscomb after redshirting during the cross country season. Veterans like Isaiah Greer and Tim Muller will make an impact as well. We have a lot of guy’s to watch and see where we are.”
The Purple and Gold looks to build on performances from last weekend after the Blazer Invite.
“We didn’t have a good meet last weekend,” Taylor said. “We are looking for improvement from our non-distance runners.”
Tucker Peabody was one of a few highlights from last weekend as he finished third in the 200m dash. Taylor expects him to continue his trend.
“He has won a conference title on this track,” Taylor said. “I think he will be motivated to take it up another level with the track conditions conducive for him to run better.”
If there was a reason to add extra motivation, competing in Johnson City is important to Taylor.
“We are going to ETSU which is the site of the A-Sun Championship,” Taylor said. “There is a little extra motivation to perform well in a facility that we need to perform well in.”
