Track and Field squads ready for A-Sun Indoors after split meets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s and women’s track and field teams made it through split competitions this past weekend with several monumental and record-breaking results.

"We had a good solid pre-conference weekend.  In some areas we are really improving.  There are also some areas we see need to be a bit more ready for Atlantic Sun,” said Bill Taylor, director of track and field.

Due to inclement weather, the trip to Indiana took nearly twice as long as it should have and some competitors even missed their races after snow storms swept through the state.

“Our milers missed their races and our open 800 meter runners had very little warm up,” said Taylor. “Our kids handled it all really well though. They had great attitudes and we all rolled with the challenges.”

But that didn’t stop Lipscomb athletes from posting strong numbers.

Dani Walker won the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.50, which put her at the top of the leaderboard in the A-Sun for that event.

Also having solid performances this weekend were Colin Dempster and Madi Talbert.

Dempster managed to set a school record in the 400 meters landing him second in the A-Sun rankings with a time of 48.28.

Talbert dominated the 3000 meters with a time of 9.58 that sent her to the number two ranking in the league.

Tucker Peabody, who competed solo at the Spire Complex in Geneva, Ohio, also achieved great results having broken the school record for the indoor 200 meters with a time of 21.05 ranking him 21st in the nation.

“We moved a number of our distance runners into good positions for the A-Sun Championships,” said Taylor.

While the results for the meets this past weekend were mixed, Taylor is not worried about the upcoming A-Sun Indoor Championships.

"We have a history of performing very well at the Championships, so I'm not concerned,” said Taylor. I know everyone will be ready to go. They compete for each other.”

The squad will hit the road to Winston-Salem, N.C. this week for the A-Sun Championships that take place on Friday and Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
