KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After a week off for finals, the Lipscomb track and field squads seem to be rested after recording stronger results at the Tennessee Challenge than in previous weeks.
"We had a very solid meet today,” said Bill Taylor, director of track and field. “The team stepped up well and showed a lot of competitive fire. It was what we hoped for after a long week of finals.”
Kaitlyn Llewellyn enjoyed a first-place finish with her time of 11:10.62 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Sally Larson picked up a personal best in the 3000 meters after crossing the line in 9:51.60.
Also securing a personal record was Phillip Smith in the triple jump. Smith landed his jump of 14.42 meters to take home third place.
Daniel Gardner ran his season best in the 3000 meters with a final time of 8:34.52.
Scott, Andrew Bosket, Brian Gentry, and Kenny Smith made up the 4x400-meter relay team who finished second with a time of 3:21.98.
Notable seniors such as Dani Walker and Tucker Peabody were absent from the meet due to graduation, but will return for the final leg of the outdoor season.
The teams hope to regain their endurance as they travel to Athens, Georgia on May 10 for their final meet before the Atlantic Sun Championships.
"We should be even more on in a week at Georgia, and then off to conference,” Taylor said. “I like where we are, and feel really good about how we are shaping up for A-Sun."
