Track and field to compete in A-Sun Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lipscomb track and field squad are headed to North Carolina to compete in the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships over the weekend.

Several Bisons head into the meet with some of the A-Sun’s top performances from the indoor season.

Women’s distance events have been one of Lipscomb’s strong points throughout the season so far, and Bison names pop up all over the A-Sun leaderboards for those categories.

Paige Stoner posted the A-Sun’s top time in the 3000m (9:46.82), and Barbara Lee Ball earned the third best time in the event (9:54.57).

Madi Talbert (5:00.89) and Ball (5:01.05) ran the second and third best times in the conference in the mile.

Talbert, Ball and Sally Larson own the top three spots in the 5000m at 16:42.85, 16:48.86 and 17:01.53 respectively. Lipscomb also posted the best A-Sun time in the distance medley at 12:10.40.

For the non-distance events, Annika Backlund (3.55m) has the second best pole vault mark of the season so far.

April Terry is always someone to watch in the field events. She has won multiple weight throw and shot put competitions this indoor season.

On the men’s side, Juan Gonzalez and Christian Freeman kept Lipscomb near the top of the distance events.

Gonzalez posted the A-Sun’s best time in the mile (4:08.83) and second best time in the 3000m (8:21.40) this season. Christian Freeman and Gonzalez posted the second and third fastest marks in the 5000m at 14:29.40 and 14:29.55.

The Bisons also have the second best A-Sun time in the distance medley (10:20.98) and third in the 4x400 relay (3:20.93).

Wayne Newman’s 8.10 second time in the 60m is the second fastest in the conference.

In the field events, Gemikal Prude ranks first in the A-Sun in the high jump. He posted his 2.18m jump at the SIU Invite.

With numerous athletes expected to be in the thick of the race to the podium across several events, the weekend could be a victorious one for the Bisons.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. eastern time on Saturday, and will be taking place at the JGL Fast Track. The meet will conclude on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
