MACON, Ga. – Thanks to a strong performance in the Lipscomb-Belmont Dual, Wayne Newman was awarded the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors. This is his first time taking home the honor.
In the track and field “Battle of the Boulevard” Newman finished first in all four of the events he participated in.
He set the school record with a blistering 14.42 time in the 110m hurdles, and won the 400m hurdles thanks to a 54.33 mark. Both times lead the A-Sun. Newman also helped earn first place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay races.
"We are so happy and proud of Wayne," Lipscomb assistant track and field coach for sprints and hurdles Marcus Evans said, "After a stellar indoor season Wayne is working towards qualifying for the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA outdoor meet. Winning his events at the Lipscomb-Belmont Dual, and putting his body on the line for his teammates, will go a long way for his confidence in his abilities."
Lipscomb track and field will be back at it this weekend with the Alabama Relays.
