Track & field takes on first meet of 2016 at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb track and field squad looks to kick off its 2016 campaign with a trip to nearby Vanderbilt for the Commodore Invitational.

The meet will be the second of three indoor competitions taking place at Vanderbilt to begin the season for the Purple and Gold. The Bisons started off this season’s indoor slate at the Vanderbilt Opener and will take part in the Vanderbilt Invite on Jan. 29.

17 schools are set to participate in the weekend’s events. SEC schools Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Tennessee will be competing, as will Battle of the Boulevard rival Belmont and fellow state schools MTSU, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and Trevecca.

Lipscomb will be sending a full lineup of athletes to compete at the Invite, including junior Wayne Newman who performed well at the Vanderbilt Opener on Dec. 5.

Several freshmen will be making their track and field debut for Lipscomb: Sam Woodford, Nathan Morgan, Psalm Ocampo, Andrew Ayers, Robert Rupp, Sean Pino, Hannah Owens, Austin Peters, Enrique Serna, Brooke Kingma, Austin Ray, Ryan Speer, Hannah Holbert, Bri Holland, Katie Sperry, and Stephen Gibson.

The meet will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and continue through Saturday.
