NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb track and field squad put together another successful weekend as the Bisons travelled to Cape Girardeau, Missouri for the Joey Haines Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri State.
Junior Wayne Newman had another big weekend by notching wins in two events. In the 110m hurdle, he won with a 14.33 second time. Newman took the 400m hurdle with a 54.89 second mark.
Junior Katie Bianchini placed first in the 1500m to give Lipscomb a third victory for the weekend. She finished with a time of 4:35.72.
In the men’s 1500m, junior Jake Poyner placed second with a time of 3:56.79. He was joined in the top 10 by freshman Ryan Speer (4:02.94) and seniors Jared Wingerter (4:04.18) and Daniel Gardner (4:04.38) who finished fifth-seventh.
Lipscomb took second in both 10,000m runs with freshman Brent Leber (31:56.4) on the men’s side and sophomore Avery Franklin (37:14.2) on the women’s.
Freshman Bridgette Doucet finished fifth in the 5000m (18:09.92), while sophomore Kacey Kemper and freshman Samantha Woodford took second and third in the 800m with times of 2:14.28 and 2:15.41, respectively.
Sophomore Mitch Zabka ran a time of 9:45.34 to finish third in the 3000m steeplechase, while freshman Austin Peters took fourth (9:52.99).
In the field events, senior April Terry placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.03m.
Fellow senior Gemikal Prude finished third in the high jump thanks to a 2.08m leap.
Freshman Stephen Gibson made a toss of 48.66m to place fifth in the discus throw.
The Bisons will be back in action April 8 as they head to Auburn, Alabama for the Tiger Track Classic.
