NASHVILLE – Lipscomb track and field will be splitting up the squad this week as the Bisons are set to take on the Mt. Sac Relays and the APSU Invite.
Several of the Purple and Gold’s top runners will be headed to the nationally-renown Mt. Sac Relays which take place in Walnut, California.
“Mt. Sac is one of the top meets in the nation,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to get personal records and to get qualifying times for the national prelims , so that’s why we send people out there to get that great competition.
“It’s an especially good meet for the distance runners to compete in because you get in some races that can pull you along.”
The distance runners will not be the only Bisons competing at Mt. Sac, as both Wayne Newman and Gemikal Prude, each coming off wins last week, will take part in the meet.
“Wayne will be there trying to get his 400m hurdle time down, and that’s the kind of competition that helps that,” Taylor said. “Gemikal is going to be out there in the high jump trying to get his mark high enough to get into the prelims as well.”
Most the squad will be close by in Clarksville at the APSU Invite.
“For the kids here, they will be at a good meet at Austin Peay,” Taylor said. “People are still trying to get their spots and move up in the rankings on their team in some cases to get into the A-Sun meet, so this meet will provide them with those opportunities.”
