NASHVILLE – As the end of the outdoor regular season approaches, the Lipscomb track and field squad will be headed to the Kentucky Relays on Saturday for their final meet before the Atlantic Sun Championships.
The Purple and Gold had last weekend off due to exams, so this meet will give the team a chance to get back in stride before the A-Sun Championships begin on May 13.
“This weekend is really a tune-up,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “It’s nice to have a weekend off. That doesn’t happen too often during the track season.
"We learned that they need to focus on academics at that time because it’s really important to us, and they don’t tend to perform well in the middle of finals anyway. So, we’re just trying to shake a little bit of rust off before conference.”
The meet looks to provide top-notch competition for the Bisons as the Kentucky women’s track and field team is currently ranked number one in the nation by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
“A lot of our distance runners will be dropping down; some of our other athletes will try something different,” Taylor said. “We’re trying to get into that mindset to go into conference the weekend after.”
