Track and field set for A-Sun Championships in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Lipscomb track and field squad is headed to Jacksonville to take part in the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

After a strong showing at the Indoor Championships and several top-notch performances during the regular season, the Bisons are looking to grab multiple all-conference nods in Jacksonville.

“The A-Sun Championships are always a highlight of the season,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “For a good chunk of our team, that’s the last meet of the year, the one they’ve been trying to qualify for, and the one they want to do best at.

“We want to score a lot of points and see how high we can get, even if we aren’t in the running for the team titles on either side. We want to get some All A-Sun athletes and some conference champions.”

Several Bison have put themselves in position to compete for a conference title in Jacksonville, including Madi Talbert (5000m and 3000m Steeplechase), Barbara Lee Ball (10,000m), Jake Poyner (5000m), Stephen Gibson (Discus), and Wayne Newman (110m high hurdles), who all sit at the top of their respective events in the current conference standings.

Seniors Gemikal Prude and April Terry have also had success in past A-Sun Championship meets and will be competing in their final conference championships.

The meet will kick off on Friday and continue through Saturday.
