JACKSONVILLE – Day one of the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships is in the books and the Lipscomb track and field squad has earned several all-conference nods from the first day of action.
Senior Madi Talbert led the way for the Bisons by earning a fourth-consecutive ASun Championship in the 3000m Steeplechase. Her time of 10:10.93 is her second best at the ASun Outdoor Championships, just behind last year’s championship-record mark of 10:00.01. Fellow senior Kate Bucknam came in second with an 11:01.49 time.
"The 3k steeple on the men and women's side went well," Lipscomb assistant coach Benton Reed said. "Mitch Zabka ran with a personal best effort and did a great job. Madi dominated from the beginning to win her unprecedented 4th straight 3k steeple at conference. Kate also ran solid and came away with 2nd."
In the 10,000m, juniors Barbara Lee Ball and Sally Larson finished second and third with marks of 36:48.24 and 37:07.81, respectively.
"The women's 10k was a success as well," Reed said. "Barbara Lee and Sally ran controlled and really helped their teammate Avery. We raced together, and this was a good race for all our women."
On the men’s side in the 10,000m, freshman Brent Leber (31:45.13) and senior Daniel Gardner (31:55.57) also took home second and third place finishes.
"The 10k was a lot of fun for our men," Reed said. "It was a solid pace early and they just grinded the last couple miles. Brent and Daniel ran smart and earned all-conference honors."
Junior Devon Wade placed third in the pole vault with a 4.31m toss.
Freshman Stephen Gibson earned third place in the shot put with a 14.30m throw.
Senior April Terry notched fourth place in the hammer throw (48.29m) and fifth in the shot put (13.68m).
