NASHVILLE – Five Lipscomb student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminaries, as announced by the NCAA offices on Monday.
Seniors Madi Talbert and Gemikal Prude, juniors Barbara Lee Ball and Sally Larson, and sophomore Wayne Newman each qualified for the East Region Prelims, giving them a chance to compete for a spot at the NCAA Division I National Championships.
This is Talbert’s fourth consecutive season qualifying for the East Prelims in the 3000m Steeplechase and her second straight year qualifying for the 5000m. She has qualified for the National Championships each of the past three seasons in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Prude has now qualified for the Outdoor East Prelims in the high jump for three consecutive seasons, and once for the Indoor East Prelims, while advancing to the National Championships in each season as well.
Newman qualified for two events at the East Prelims, the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. It is his second straight year to advance to the East Prelims in the 110m hurdles.
Larson is also heading to the East Prelims for the second year in a row. Last season, she qualified for the 5000m, while this season she will be taking part in the 10,000m.
This will be Ball’s first appearance at the East Prelims. She will be racing alongside Larson in the 10,000m.
The meet will begin on May 26 and conclude on May 28.
