Eight named All-Academic for track and field

MACON, Ga. – Eight Lipscomb student-athletes have been named to the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team, as announced by the league offices on Friday.

The Bisons had four men and four women named to the team, with six of the eight selections being unanimous.

On the men’s side, juniors Daniel Lenart and Devon Wade and sophomores Kade Hinkle and Wayne Newman were each unanimously voted onto the All-Academic squad.

This is the second year in a row for both Lenart and Newman to earn the honor. Newman was named the ASun Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015. The two also earned All-Academic honors for the 2016 indoor season, as did Wade. This was Hinkle’s first All-Academic honor.

For the women’s team, juniors Barbara Lee Ball and Katie Bianchini and sophomores Avery Franklin and Kacey Kemper each earned All-Academic spots. Bianchini and Franklin were selected unanimously. All four were voted onto the ASun Indoor All-Academic Team earlier this season as well.

Ball has now been named to six total ASun All-Academic Teams between track and field and cross country.

Newman and Ball will step back onto the track on May 26 for the NCAA Division I East Region Prelims.
