Newman grabs fifth career ASUN weekly honor

LakePoint, Ga. – For the fifth time in his career and for the first time during indoor season, Lipscomb senior Wayne Newman has been named the ASUN Male Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league offices on Wednesday.

Newman earned the first ASUN track weekly award of the 2016-17 season after his performance at the Vanderbilt Opener.

The Arizona native finished first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.03 seconds, the fastest time in the ASUN over the weekend.

Newman also raced in the 400m, taking eighth place with a time of 49.21 seconds in the 400.

The senior has now collected five total ASUN weekly awards after adding his first indoor win to his four outdoor prizes.

Newman and the rest of the Lipscomb track and field squad will not be back in action until Jan. 13 at the Commodore Indoor Invite.
