Track and field kicks off 2017 with Commodore Invite

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb track and field squad will be kicking off 2017 with a short trip across town as the Bisons take part in the Commodore Indoor Invitational at nearby Vanderbilt.

The Invite will be the second consecutive meet to take place at Vanderbilt for the Purple and Gold as they began the 2016-17 season with the Vanderbilt Opener Invite on Dec. 3.

Lipscomb will be sending a full slate of student-athletes to the event, including senior Wayne Newman who earned the season’s first ASUN Male Track Athlete of the Week award, and the fifth of his career, after his performance at the Vanderbilt Opener.

Several freshman will be performing in their first or second track and field meet as a Bison, including: Brandon Belloni, Teanna Jules, Hannah Salami, Ahmed Amaar, Raymond Jones, Randolph Wilkerson, Tracey Jenkins, John Green, William Kachman, Kyra Drobny, Lauren Dunnell, Haley Humphrey, Kailey Schuyler, Jordan Stiewig, Collin Gunn, Bree Salcedo, Asha Smith, Courtney Brenner, Zach Israel, Chase Hampton, Owen Glogovsky, Brody Beiler, and Sam Shaylor.

The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and will continue all day on Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
